　　This lecture will explore the possibilities of Sino-0uébecois identity as an alternative version of the category of“Chinese-Canadian,through the novels of Ying Chen. Through a focus on two of her novels, L'Ingratitude and Un enfant à ma porte, this lecture will theorize a distinetly Ouébecois version of the generational divides which run through Chinese-Canadian communities.

　　Daniel Fried is Professor of Chinese at the University of Alberta, and Chair of the Department of East Asian Studies there. His research focuses on the history of China's conceptions of language and communication. He has numerous scholarly works. Among his contributions, he founded the MLA forum on Chinese literature before 1400, is a past president of the Association of Chinese and Comparative Literature, and is currently co.editor of the series, Routledge Studies in Comparative Chinese Literature and Culture.
